Heating systems and heat pumps

Design, supply and installation of heating for homes and commercial buildings.

IMAGEAir-source heat pump beside a modern house

We design each heating system around the building, its heat loss and the way it is used. Every project starts with a survey and a room-by-room heat loss calculation.

How to make heating economical

  • Right sizing. Heat pump output and radiators are selected from the heat loss of each room.
  • Heat pump. It produces about three units of heat for every unit of electricity.
  • Low flow temperature. Larger radiators or underfloor heating warm the home with cooler water, so the heat pump works more efficiently.
  • Weather compensation. The water temperature follows the outdoor weather.
  • Heating with ventilation. Heat recovery returns heat from outgoing air; an air-to-air heat pump both heats and cools.
  • Insulation first. A system works more efficiently in an insulated building.

Turnkey heating: our services include

  • Design. Heat loss calculation and selection of the heat pump, emitters, cylinder and controls.
  • Equipment supply. Matched to the design and budget.
  • Installation. Outdoor and indoor equipment, pipework, radiators or underfloor heating.
  • Commissioning and handover. Testing and setting up to a documented procedure, instructions and user guidance.
  • Maintenance and repair. Planned checks and fault fixing.
  • Upgrades. Moving an existing system to a heat pump, replacing radiators, adding zones and controls.

Heat pumps: a cost-effective source of heat

Air-to-water

Takes heat from outdoor air and heats water for radiators, underfloor heating and hot water stored in a cylinder. The outdoor unit is usually a monobloc. Suits homes and moving an existing wet system off a boiler.

Air-to-air

Delivers warm air through indoor units and can also cool. Suits offices, shops and flats. Most of these systems do not heat water or supply fresh air, so they are paired with ventilation.

Hybrid

For homes with high heat demand: the heat pump works alongside a boiler, which tops up the heat output in very cold weather.

Heating system components

Underfloor heating

Works well with a heat pump: the large surface gives off heat at a low water temperature.

Radiators

Checked and replaced to suit the heat source. A heat pump sometimes needs larger radiators.

Hot water

The cylinder is sized to hot water use and usually fits in a cupboard.

Controls

Thermostats, zoning, timers and weather compensation for daily control.

Why the calculation matters

An undersized heat pump runs flat out and costs more to run. An oversized one switches on and off too often. A room-by-room calculation sizes the heat pump and radiators so that every room is warm and pipework is only replaced where it is really needed.

Heating equipment

  • Air-to-water and air-to-air heat pumps
  • Radiators, selected or replaced for a low-temperature heat source
  • Wet underfloor heating for new builds, extensions and renovations
  • Hot water cylinders sized to the household or building
  • Thermostats, zoning, timers and weather compensation
  • Ventilation with heat recovery to cut heat loss

Equipment benefits

  • Efficiency. Heat pumps and low-temperature emitters reduce heating costs.
  • Reliability. Equipment from manufacturers with an official warranty and documentation.
  • Flexibility. Different types and outputs for homes and commercial premises.
  • Full range of services. From calculation and supply to installation and maintenance.

Where we install heating

For every building we offer a technical solution suited to its conditions and budget, not just equipment.

Offices

Air-to-air heat pumps give heating in winter and cooling in summer from one system, with zoned temperatures and scheduled controls.

Shops

The solution depends on floor area and layout. Cassette or ducted heat pump units heat the sales floor evenly.

Cafés and restaurants

The dining area is heated by an air-to-air heat pump; kitchen hot water comes from an air-to-water heat pump.

Small hotels

Individual control in each room and high hot water demand. The cylinder is sized for peak use.

Fitness studios and gyms

Shower hot water from an air-to-water heat pump, space heating and ventilation with heat recovery.

Medical and dental practices

Stable temperatures in treatment rooms, with control by zone and by opening hours.

Warehouses and workshops

Warm air collects under the roof. Ducted heat pump units mounted high draw it down to the working area.

Homes and flats

An air-to-water heat pump, underfloor heating or radiators, a cylinder and weather compensation.

Why clients choose us

The right solution for every business and home

Cost-led design

We compare installation cost with running costs and choose the option that pays off over the life of the system.

Modern technology

Heat pumps, weather compensation and heat recovery for lower heating bills.

Phased delivery

An upgrade can be split into stages, for example radiators first and the heat pump later, to make budgeting easier.

Commercial systems

  • Air-to-air heat pumps for heating and cooling
  • Air-to-water heat pumps for heating and hot water
  • Conventional wet heating with radiators
  • Ventilation with heat recovery

Systems for the home

  • Air-to-water heat pump with radiators or underfloor heating
  • Hot water cylinder
  • Weather-compensated and zoned controls
  • Mechanical ventilation with heat recovery

Our process

Survey

Building, existing heating system and client requirements assessed on site.

Heat loss assessment

Room-by-room heat loss calculated to size the heat pump and emitters.

System design

Heat pump, radiators or underfloor heating, cylinder and controls specified.

Installation

Outdoor and indoor equipment, pipework and emitters fitted and connected.

Commissioning

System tested and set up, documents handed over, user guidance given.

After installation

Heat pumps and heating systems need a regular check, usually once a year. At handover we explain how to run the system economically: keep it on and lower the temperature at night or when the building is empty, rather than switching it off. For planned servicing and repairs, see Service & Maintenance.
